Let me state the following: I am not a professional in the judging of either books or DVD’s but at least I can give you some input into the few items I have the pleasure of reading of viewing.
The items and hunts I enjoyed will obviously get a better rating, but I will leave it up to you to make your own assesment of the product.
Below are a few of the DVD’s I have watched and books I have read in the last few months.
Books:
How (not) to hunt Pigs and other cautionary tales of rod and gun.
Author – Bruce Truter
239 pages
Cost – for the life of me, I cannot remember but I think its about R100
This book is compiled of various stories and some that have been placed in one of my favourite magazines – Magnum. It makes for enjoyable reading, and entertains throughout. The dry wit and humour of Bruce Truter makes this book easy to read.
The funniest story in this book (to me at least) is called “Muzzle loading Mountain Men”. I myself hunt with black powder and allthough I do not go to the extremes of these gentlemen as described in this story, I can fully identify with their quest for game with a front end loader. The only difference is that I do not wear the Davy Crockett hat and the home made leather shoes…..
Read this book if you are looking for some light and refershing reading entertainment before bed time or on a Sunday afternoon.
